First Saturday in June is the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade, part of our "olde English" municipality's weekend celebration. The parade is a modest affair but a lot of fun. For the last 13 years I've entered with MM's "float" and few buddies handing out flyers to people who are curious to know what this apparition is about.
Appropriately, it's a decorated wheelbarrow, as it was my working wheelbarrow, build by my dad, that became the logo for my freelance gardening business. The first year of MM I printed up t-shirts adding it as a logo, re-jigged to be overflowing with film stuff and popcorn instead of plants.
As a float with "Manic Monday", "Monday Monday" and "Seventy-Six Trombones" blaring from the ghetto blaster strapped on the front it makes an fun, eye-catching and, typical of MM, thrifty way to tell our community we're here and proud, and inviting them to join us for a night at the movies.
