One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, one of the most famous and controversial movies about psychiatric institutions and the people they serve, was a challenge to present in a positive context. Bruce contacted Dr. Dean Brooks, who was superintendent of Oregan State Hospital, and was technical advisor to the film, eventually being cast in the role of Dr. Spivey across from Jack Nicholson's R.P. McMurphy. He was pleased to come to Victoria from his home in Washington State to present a special Saturday night showing of the movie. His fascinating comments about the development of the script, the shooting of the film, and his involvement in with the project in his new role as actor, preceded the screening and after the show he answered audience questions.

His videotaped introduction was shown again, when One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was presented at Movie Monday, on October 14, 1995.
